"Swaging" is a method of forming. It involves driving metal into a form. In this case a domed groove is cut into a small section of railroad rail and metal is driven into the cut with a sledge hammer. The ring blank is then stamped using handmade stamping tools, formed, and a bezel is made for the stone setting and applied to the shank. The stone is then set, and the piece is finished.
